What is a good HYROX rowing time? The answer depends on the group and the race context. The 1,000 metres come after five runs and four stations. Read your split alongside what came before and the run that follows.
In the panel above, choose the individual category, the age group published for the race and the event location. If you enter your split, the response shows where it sits within the group. You can also leave the time blank to explore the reference. We do not ask for your name or registration.
How does the Rowing station work?
Rowing is the fifth station, covering 1,000 metres in all four individual divisions. Under the 26/27 rulebook, the athlete must remain seated until completing the distance and receiving the judge’s confirmation. The damper starts at setting 6 and can be adjusted by the participant. Check the details in the official 26/27 singles rulebook. This analysis includes earlier seasons; current rules do not retrospectively certify every race entry.
What is a good Rowing time?
The comparison uses three descriptions: among the fastest splits, within the common band or longer than that band. A shorter time means less time spent at the station; it is not a fitness grade or a complete athlete assessment.
The typical time divides the group in half. The common band contains approximately the middle half of splits. These references describe the available sample, with its size and period disclosed; they are not universal targets for every arena.
We do not calculate an exact individual percentile or promise minutes of improvement. Ties and rounding exist. When the sample is small, the comparison shows less information or provides no interpretation.
A worked example: Men Open aged 35–39
In the Brazilian sample, this group included 568 race entries across 5 editions. The typical station time was 4:54, and the common band ran from 4:40 to 5:10.
This example describes a group without identifying a person. Enter your split to compare with the correct category and age. If your time is above the common band, the next step is to review the race context, not assume the whole difference could be recovered.
What happens on the next run?
The panel compares run 5, immediately before the station, with run 6, after it. In the example, the typical change within each race entry was 7 seconds less on the next leg.
In this group, the next run was typically shorter. This counters the assumption that a station must always be followed by a longer leg. It does not demonstrate physiological recovery or show that a particular rowing technique improves the run: layout, earlier pacing, transitions and other conditions remain part of the context.
We first calculate the difference between the two runs within each entry, then find the middle of those differences. The typical change may therefore differ from subtracting the two typical run times drawn in the bars. The share of entries with a longer next run describes the sample; it is not the probability that this will happen to you.
What to review in your own race
First, confirm where the time came from. This comparison uses the published station split, not the monitor’s 500-metre pace or a rowing test performed while fresh. Those are different measurements and contexts.
When reviewing your race, look at run 5, the rowing station and run 6. A shorter rowing split can accompany either a consistent sequence or a later slowdown; this analysis does not estimate what would happen if you pushed harder on the rower. The article beyond the finish time explains why the components need to be read together.
Brazil and international races: two separate comparisons
The selector refers to event location, not athlete nationality. The analysis retained 4,028 entries across 5 Brazilian editions and 171,465 across 67 international editions for this station.
The periods and participants differ. We do not silently fill a small Brazilian sample with international data or interpret a difference as one country being better. The “all ages” option explicitly expands the group and is labelled as an overview without age adjustment.
From the comparison to your full race sequence
This free comparison puts your split in the context of a group. To explore your own sequence of runs and stations, open the OUTLIER results hub, choose an available race and confirm the correct entry.
Search and the available free preview do not require registration. The full assessment is paid and optional, with its content, availability and price presented before purchase. See the guide to how the assessment works.
Sources and methods
Read-only extraction on 27 October 2026, covering individual Men/Women Open and Pro. Brazil: 20 September 2025 to 18 October 2026. International: 19 July 2025 to 9 August 2026. We examined 70 international editions with previously reconciled dates; 67 had eligible entries. This is historical archive coverage, not a worldwide census.
We removed conflicting copies, results without a usable placing, known provisional-result alerts, inconsistencies and identified penalties or bonuses. We required a usable age group, eight runs and eight distinct stations, Roxzone, the exact station label and order, and a component sum within 30 seconds of the finish time. In addition to the previously identified Chiba bonus case, this review found four other entries with official bonuses, excluded from all three studies. The original database was not changed.
For this station, we checked 9 extreme splits in the official details and rankings. 1 long split was reintroduced after verification; 7 published short splits remain excluded under the predeclared minimum analysis time of 2min30s. 1 entry was excluded for an official bonus. Confirming a published time neither certifies completion of the full distance nor establishes a timing error. No checks remain pending within this list.
We calculate empirical percentiles with interpolation within event location × sex × division × age. The unit is a race entry; the same person can appear at more than one event. With at least 50 entries across three editions, we show the full comparison. With 20 or more across two editions, only the typical time. Below that support, we do not interpret performance. These minimums are not confidence levels.
The runs are published split durations; individual leg distances were not confirmed in this analysis. Explicit official-result status fields were missing in retained records, and filtering does not certify every result. The official HYROX platform remains the source for rankings and corrections. OUTLIER provides an independent interpretation that may be updated.
